Agreed. I'll announce it tonight or tomorrow. I just want to fix up the member permissions and CSS first.
On that note, I think that I'll open up membership to anyone who wants to join. I'll post the secret password in our forum, so that'll deter any spammers passing by. Only members will be able to edit pages. Those of us who are currently moderators will stay moderators (no plans for any others right now). If things get out of hand for some reason, I'll "lock it down" again. Any comments/objections?
FozZ made a point in a PM:
we don't just want all the "use the search button comments" changing to "look at the wiki!" comments. Unless this thing stick out like a sore thumb to new users then it'll get overlooked just as much.
which is a good point. Unless it's painfully obvious that users find their answers here, we shouldn't hold it against them for not coming here first. We have yet to discuss those possibilities with Coolcheeze. The forums rules and FAQs stick out about as much as they can, so we try to "disipline" those who don't read first (many forum users insist on flaming instead).
I guess the point is that that it's ok to respond to forum posts with "See here: (wiki_link)" because there will be a well-explained answer for that and other problems. We don't want responses like "search the wiki, stupid!"
Where do you (all) think a Wiki link and/or picture would go good on the forum site? For those viewing with a decent resolution, there's a nice space right in the middle. Otherwise, perhaps a button next the Search button, maybe blinking. While we're at it, it would be nice to make the Search button blink slowly (or something to make it more noticeable, but not obnoxious.
